Caribbean Cultural Institute Fellowships 2025 by Pérez Art Museum Miami
Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) is pleased to announce an open call for the sixth cycle of the Caribbean Cultural Institute (CCI) Fellowship Program. This year, the CCI invites interested researchers, artists, and photographers to apply for the CCI Artist Fellowship, CCI Research Fellowship, and CCI + Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA) Fellowship. All three programs are self-directed and take place between September and December 2025.
“We are excited for the next cycle of the CCI Fellowship Program, marking our sixth iteration,” said Franklin Sirmans, Sandra and Tony Tamer Director at Pérez Art Museum Miami. “Here at PAMM, we have sought to be a good partner and a connector in the region through the support and collaboration of artists and scholars. As a museum dedicated to presenting the artists of the Caribbean and its diaspora, we are fortunate that we are able to provide this opportunity.”
The Caribbean Cultural Institute (CCI) Fellowship program fosters art projects and research that advance cultural development and scholarship in the Caribbean and its diaspora. Through research and production-based art fellowships, the program cultivates new ideas that challenge traditional conceptions of Caribbean art, generates innovative study of the region, and reflects upon the contemporary state of Caribbean art and thought. The CCI Fellowship program is intended to support artists, cultural practitioners, and scholars from the Caribbean and its diaspora whose projects would benefit from access to Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and its institutional resources.
“By supporting Caribbean artists and researchers, we invest in the cultural development of the region,” said Iberia Pérez González, Andrew W. Mellon Caribbean Cultural Institute Curatorial Associate at Pérez Art Museum Miami. “Through the CCI Fellowship Program, we aim to ensure their creativity and their voices continue to shape and broaden the field of contemporary art.”
Previous recipients of the CCI Fellowship include Arthur Francietta, Claudia Claremi, Emilie Boone, Shannon Alonzo, Farihah Aliyah Shah, Petrina Dacres, Guillermo Rodriguez, Madeleine Hunt-Ehrlich, Abel Gonzalez Fernandez, Eliazar Ortiz, Jessica Taylor, Monica Sorelle, Erica M. James, Julian Sanchez Gonzalez, and Ronald Cyrille.
Fellowship Guidelines
CCI Research Fellowship
The CCI Research Fellowship is intended for established and promising Caribbean researchers, scholars, or curators who are based in the Caribbean or its diaspora and whose research advances the study of contemporary art of the region. The CCI encourages proposals that expand the scholarship on artworks from PAMM’s Caribbean art collection but also welcomes research projects that shed light on different aspects of Caribbean art and cultural production from an interdisciplinary perspective.
This fellowship will follow a hybrid (remote and in-person) format and must be completed within four months. As part of the program, the CCI will cover travel expenses and accommodation in Miami for a two-week residency period devoted to collection viewing, networking, and active engagement with the local art community. The CCI will also provide a research stipend and cover research-related expenses up to $2,000. The fellow is expected to produce an essay that will be published on the CCI website.
CCI Artist Fellowship
The CCI Artist Fellowship is intended for emerging to mid-career Caribbean artists and cultural practitioners based in the Caribbean or its diaspora and working across a range of disciplines and media. This opportunity aims to support the development of artistic practice via studio work, mentorship, institutional collaborations, and/or engagement in public programs. The CCI will provide institutional support as well as access to PAMM’s curatorial resources and networks. The Artist Fellow will be hosted in Miami for up to two months and provided with accommodation, a stipend, and a studio space in collaboration with the Bakehouse Art Complex. Travel expenses to and from Miami will be covered. A production budget of up to $4,000 will be allocated depending on the needs of the project.
CCI + Women Photographers International Archive Fellowship
The CCI + Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA) Fellowship is open to emerging to mid-career women and non-binary photographers from the Caribbean or of Caribbean heritage. During the fellowship period, the selected fellow will focus on the production of a new body of work or expanding an ongoing project. The fellow will be able to develop their photographic practice through mentorship and engagement with the local art community. Together, CCI and WOPHA will provide institutional support as well as access to their curatorial resources and networks.
The 2025 CCI + WOPHA Fellowship will run from September through November and will follow a hybrid format, combining in-person and remote participation. The fellowship will include a residency period in Miami at El Espacio 23 during the month of September. The selected CCI + WOPHA Fellow will receive a stipend and production funds of up to $4,000, depending upon the needs of the project. If the selected Fellow is not currently based in Miami, CCI + WOPHA will provide round-trip airfare to Miami.
