The award-winning Community Arts Program (CAP) Conservatory and Miami Jazz Institute is now accepting CAP Saturday Music Classes and CAP Monday Performing Ensembles applications for the 2024-2025 season. Students ages 5 through 18 interested in developing exceptional musical, technical, and performance skills on their chosen instrument—any instrument, including voice—are encouraged to apply, no matter what one’s circumstance or ability. September through April activities are at the historic Coral Gables Congregational Church, 3010 De Soto Boulevard, Coral Gables, FL 33134 (directly across from the Biltmore Hotel).

Shelly Berg, Dean of the Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music at the University of Miami says “The Community Arts Program (CAP) provides high-quality music education to children, many of whom would otherwise be denied access to the wonder of music and the beauty of the artistic spirit.”

CAP Saturday Music Classes offers extraordinary one-on-one instruction on a student’s chosen instrument, including voice. This is augmented with music theory that explores all musical styles and keen aural training, composition, and solo performance practice. An exceptional staff of over 38 CAP Teaching Artists provides an exceptional learning opportunity. Weekly feedback to parents and students is part of CAP’s well-structured and informative approach.

CAP Performing Ensembles within also a fun, collaborative environment prepare students for the expectations of college and career. After-school, Monday performing ensembles include CAP Creative Strings and CAP Jazz Ensemble PLUS, where students discover new and creative ways of approaching music together on their instrument. This brings impactful performances steeped in musical diversity and a creative exploration within all types of music. An incredibly unique advantage in the CAP Performing Ensembles curriculum is students finding their voice and expressing their thoughts while building music-writing skills. This creates a valuable recording, transcription, composition, and performance skillset that elevates students’ knowledge, creativity, and unique voice as musicians. The CAP 2024-2025 academic year culminates in a recording of student original compositions on the CAP Records® recording label.
