Musical Theatre Instructor – Area Stage Conservatory

Area Stage Conservatory is seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic Musical Theatre Instructor to join their faculty. This hands-on position goes beyond teaching—it plays a vital role in the day-to-day artistic development of their students. Instructors at Area Stage are passionate educators who bring professional experience, mentorship, and creativity into every classroom, rehearsal, and private session.

Candidates should demonstrate expertise across acting, singing, and basic movement, as well as a strong understanding of age-appropriate pedagogy and musical theatre repertoire.

 

Compensation

Starting at $15/hour (commensurate with experience and education)

 

Schedule

Lessons and classes may be scheduled between 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM (Monday–Sunday); Flexible scheduling available

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, level-appropriate instruction in musical theatre performance (acting, singing, and dance).
  • Teach both private lessons and group classes, adapting curriculum to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Prepare students for recitals, auditions, and Conservatory productions.
  • Collaborate with fellow instructors and artistic staff to support student development and production needs.
  • Maintain open communication with students, families, and staff, adhering to all Area Stage guidelines and policies.
  • Foster a professional, encouraging, and artistically challenging classroom environment.

 

Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of formal teaching experience in musical theatre performance (private instruction, university setting, or professional program).

  • Strong vocal, dance, and acting instruction skills with an emphasis on healthy technique for young performers; basic piano proficiency preferred for warming up students.
  • Experience working with students ages 5 – 18.
  • Experience or familiarity with acting training for musical theatre.
  • Passion for teaching and mentoring young artists of diverse abilities and backgrounds.
  • Professional experience performing or directing musical theatre preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
