A trailblazer in historic preservation and architectural design, Richard J. Heisenbottle, FAIA, brings over 40 years of expertise to his role as Co-Chair of the Coral Gables Museum’s Exhibitions and Acquisitions Committee, a position he has held since 2023.

As founding president of R.J. Heisenbottle Architects, based in Coral Gables, he has led some of Florida’s most iconic preservation projects, including Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, the Freedom Tower, and the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts. His distinguished career includes numerous awards, national recognition from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and induction into the AIA College of Fellows.

This year, Mr. Heisenbottle also served as Chair of the Coral Gables Museum’s Centennial Gala in January 2025—an elegant, sophisticated, sold-out event that raised significant support for the Museum’s mission.

In tandem with his leadership on the Board, he played an instrumental role in making possible the exhibition, La Giralda: Transformation, Influence and Restoration, currently on view.

The show explores the rich architectural legacy of Seville’s iconic tower, a subject closely aligned with Mr. Heisenbottle’s passion for preservation and design excellence. His commitment continues to elevate the Museum’s profile and programming during this landmark centennial year. A dedicated advocate for cultural heritage and community engagement, Mr. Heisenbottle continues to shape Coral Gables and Miami’s architectural legacy—one project at a time.

His firm RJ Heisenbottle Architects, P.A., is currently in charge of restoring the gorgeous Coral Gables City Hall.
