Broward County Public Schools Empowering Students Through Storytelling and Art: I Learn America

0Shares

At Hollywood Hills High School, a powerful movement is taking place through a collaboration with “I Learn America,” a youth-oriented initiative that allows students from immigrant backgrounds to share their stories, embrace their identities, and connect with their communities.

Through storytelling, visual art and community dialogue, this program aims to provide students with an opportunity to reflect on their journeys, express themselves and develop a sense of belonging. Students are encouraged to fully own their stories and turn them into sources of strength, whether that’s through spoken narratives or large-scale portrait displays.

Recently at Hollywood Hills High School, students took part in a storytelling event where they shared their personal experiences with migration, resilience and cultural identity. This event ultimately united students, families and educators in a meaningful way and allowed them to engage in a conversation about the importance of voice, vulnerability and understanding.

As a result of partnerships like these, I Learn America transforms schools into places of creativity and connection, where student perspectives are heard and incorporated. Overall, BCPS is very honored and proud to witness the power of student expression within their community.
