O, Miami’s Reggaeton-Inspired Poetry Bash & Benito Look-Alike Contest
A wave of poetry and reggaeton lovers gathered at Roberto Clemente Park yesterday, April 27, 2025 for O, Miami’s Poetry, Paperbacks & Piraguas—a vibrant celebration of Puerto Rican culture presented in partnership by Bookleggers Library and La Mesa Boricua. The block party-style gathering featured live, traditional music by Tribute de Plena, hands-on papermaking and painting for kids, free books courtesy of Bookleggers library, savory bites like arroz con gandulez and pernil from El Bori food truck, and plenty of piraguas to go around.
The event’s centerpiece, the Benito Look-Alike Contest, drew friendly competition and big crowd energy, creating an open space of belonging where poetry lovers of all ages stepped up and recited their favorite Bad Bunny lines. With vibes as chill as Conejo himself, the contestants brought laughter and lighthearted flair, not ego – each strut, pose and lyric delivered with joy. The race for first place was tighter than a reggaeton beat drop, with little three-year-old Marcelo charming the crowd into a sweet second-place finish. Ultimately, Kevin Amaro gave the best passionate performance and was crowned as Miami’s top Bad Bunny look-alike and winner of a one-year EL Car Wash membership.
Attendees of all ages danced, channeled their creative energy and celebrated the heart of Puerto Rican culture through rhythm, joy, and creativity. The inclusive, vibrant celebration took place in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood, which has been historically home to the city’s Boricua community, earning the nickname Little San Juan.
